Snake Bite Piercing

Let's face it, this is the era of piercings and tattoos. They're not only becoming not as taboo, people are finally starting to recognize them for how beautiful they are, and they are becoming more accepted in schools, workplaces, and other institutions across the country. You never know, maybe in twenty years it wouldn't at all be abnormal to see a politician with visible tattoos or piercings. Of course, none of that is terribly relevant now because you're here to talk about your snake bite piercing. Also simply known as a lip ring or double lip ring, this piercing through the bottom lip is named as such because what it might look like if a snake were to have gotten a hold of your bottom lip and dug it's fangs in there, and then someone just happened to have two studs or rings handy to plug the holes. So, in this brief guide we are going to go over what the different snake bite piercings can look like, what the process of getting a snake bite piercing is, and some of the potential complications with snake bite piercings.

First, let's talk about actually getting the piercing. Anytime you're getting a hole made in your face, it can be pretty scary, but a snake bite is actually one of the less painful piercings you can get. It isn't quite as easy as having your ear lobes pierced, but also isn't nearly as painful as having your anti-eyebrow done or your tongue or something like that. As always, if you get two, as is the genuine snakebite, the second one tends to hurt a little more (this is an old piercer trick, because people get so nervous and build up their adrenaline for the first piercing in a set of two that they often barely notice the first one, then they relax so much when it didn't hurt that the second one tends to hurt a little more. It just happens). Of course, neither are really that bad, and after the piercing you can expect a little more bleeding than normal just because face wounds tend to bleed, and then you're also going to have to get used to the studs or ring being on the inside of your lip which can be kind of uncomfortable for some people at first (some people never get comfortable with this, especially when eating and simply have the ring or stud removed). Of course, eating will be a problem at first, as well kissing, drinking, and potentially even talking if swelling is bad, but this usually lasts no more than any other piercing (1-4 weeks, usually only a few days at the very worst in terms of swelling). As with any piercing, you're going to want to spend at least the first eight weeks or so making sure to regularly clean the puncture, the ring, and the area around it with piercing safe soaps in order to keep it from becoming infected. Other than that, you'll be ready to go and in good shape, and you'll look like some of these beautiful people:

Here are some spiked snake bite piercings that look pretty cool on a woman (or this might be an affeminitely-lipped man, I'm not really sure). These look pretty cool but can actually seriously kinda hurt if you're making out with someone and get a little crazy. Of course, it's all in good fun, right? Anyway, keep in mind that with something like this you are going to have a stud on the inside of your mouth which is going to take some getting used to, and you'll have to watch out for those bottom front teeth in case this creates a problem in that area.

This is an example of the slightly more popular and, in my personal opinion, a little more attractive version of the snake bite using rings instead of studs. Of course, this is much more likely to interfere with your speech, your eating, and your drinking, so that's really going to have to be your call, and it isn't as though the other one really looks bad or anything, so don't feel at all hesitant to go with the studded look if it's more your thing. This is just a little bit different look at the same design. Notice how these are pierced slightly closer together and angled outwards, different from the one up above. Pretty cool, huh? It isn't a bad investment and it stays in nicely.

So here we have the complete package. you'll notice that this particular girl chose the stud snake bites and it looks pretty good on her. Of course, I'm not sure how much more I can say about this because she could be anywhere from about 19 to about 12, so I won't do too much more commenting except to say this: You want to get snake bite piercings because they look cool, they're half vanity and half rebellion, and honestly it just sometimes feels cool to get a piercing everyone can see. Of course, if you get it like this walking cliche did, so you can look like someone's myspace picture from five years ago, maybe it's time that you get your mind out of high school, put down your not-quite-so-indie-anymore emo records on your ipod, and start looking for something that is going to make you stand out because you're expressing yourself as an individual, not because you want to be like this girl and have the exact same photo that every girl who graduated from high school in the suburbs in the last four years or so has had. Not to hate, because honestly, what matters is on the inside and that's not just garbage, but if you actively pursue looking like a cliche, well, I hate to tell you this, but you're going to look like one. Snake bite piercings are cool! Make them look cool! Don't combine them with this dumb sad look and this same haircut everyone else has! Be an original! It may be tough, but you can do it!
